Yahoo merges with Bing for Search, Domain name investors are happy

BingYahooMergeDomainnamegood Yahoo merges with Bing for Search, Domain name investors are happyIt was all over the news, Bing and Yahoo Search business is finally one. The Top 2 and 3 (Yahoo and Bing) has finally merged and now targets to compete with Google. Bing is now going to control the search of Yahoo which places them at 28% market share in the search business (while Google is supposedly holding 65%). So what does this deal have to do with us domainers and domain names?…

… If you’ve read what I’ve written about Bing before, you’ll see how friendly Bing is to generic and keyword rich domain names. What I found that Bing was placing my premium ccTLDs in the top of the searches of those specific keywords. I’ve been getting some traffic from Bing on my domain names and imagine that increasing by 3.5 times (8% to 28%). This is also good for us domainers because, as Online Marketing is gaining more popularity, domain names will even get higher priority in searches and therefore online marketers would have more demand for it which effectively increases its value.

I’m actually quite happy that this deal is finally done, Google will finally have a prominent competitor and would need to make their products better and innovations. Although this seems really well for us, it doesn’t mean to say that it’s going to be such a big change for us. We have to remember that Google still controls the majority of the search market and, not pleasing Google, could still make us lose out on revenues. For me, it’s still a small celebration, nonetheless, a great move on Bing’s part. Congratulations on Bing and Yahoo on such a great deal.
