One thing about domaining that really attracts and disgusts people is the price in which domain names are sold. I remember when I was starting I thought of trying to buy from the domain name aftermarket, and I was so shocked to have seen such inflated values. So I thought, with that price how many could I have registered? This is true for a lot of starters in the industry right now, and their main question is “Are there any good generic domain names available for registration?”…
… One thing that discouraged me before was that I believed that all good generic domain names are taken. It did set me back and let me feel that I was too late to enter the industry (seriously, I was even thinking ‘I wish I was born a few years back then I could’ve taken…’ lol). But that’s where I believe I was wrong, there’s still some good generic domain names available for registration.
Expiring Domain Names
I quickly learned that by browsing thru different expert domainers’ blogs and quickly found out about it. Every single day, many domain names expire and many of them get deleted. Once deleted, it is available again for registration. I was able to register some domain names which were registered way back and has expired.

Email List
I’ve subscribed to an emailing list which emails a newsletter once in a while, giving you a list of domain names that are available for registration. Make sure to act fast and register what you like straight away as most of the time, once they post, the domain names are registered by others right away.

Undiscovered topics
Like all domainers, each one of us have our own specialties, interest, or knowledge, so there are always categories to which on domainer will know more than the other. That’s where we can draw even more keywords to which we can register. I was able to get a few domain names in these category recently, that’s when I realized that I should’ve done this before.
How do we discover undiscovered topics?
One last method that I strongly recommend is using Google Tool External. I’m sure most of you are used to it being used as a way to check just the number of searches and advertiser competition, but it could be used the other way around. Here’s how:
- Enter a specific keyword you’d like to explore, make sure to check the synonyms
- On the bottom (before similar words), click on export keyword (the files like rtf etc.) Download the list and open the file
- Copy all the keywords on the list
- Open Godaddy’s website, and go to Bulk Domain Registration (Highlight the Domains word on navigation and when it drops down, click on Bulk Register)
- Paste all keywords and choose the domain name extension
- Click Search
Lots of those domain names will be unavailable, but check on the search box again, whatever is left is available. This one’s a great method to find lots of those undiscovered domain names that domainers haven’t tapped into.
