Why Philippines needs great website 2.0 developments

why Philippines need great website developments

Websites (especially web 2.0)have always been my passion since the whole internet thing started, web 2.0 was probably where I really have opened my eyes to opportunities. If you look at the Philippine website developments, notice how Blogs have been one of the top ranking development projects and how the Philippine web is dominated by it. So why does the Philippines need great website developments?…

… As I did my Masters degree in the UK around 2 years ago, it was only the time when web 2.0 was really becoming more and more popular which presented tons of concepts and interesting systems that I thought was very interesting. Coming back home, I suddenly felt going backwards where Facebook wasn’t known (it was still Friendster that time), and Twitter gave the ‘what the hell…?’ Look. Fast forward to today, where is Philippines web development? Yes there’s Sulit which I’d say is closest to successful web 2.0 than any other websites.

So Why do we need great website developments here?

develop Philippine website

First, we’ve got tons of talented and skilled web designers and developers here in the Philippines. Where do they work? In outsourcing companies or being freelancers. All they need is really a big push to take a step forward and really get to do their own business, it doesn’t really need to be the next eBay, Facebook or Google, all you need is a product or service that people really need.

Second, Businesses need more web presence than just having a website. When businesses talk about internet, one thing they probably know is their own website. Having a website, nowadays, is never enough anymore. Everyone’s got one, so how can you stay ahead of your competitors? What they need is specific projects they can get into, for example, a bank related user review website or banking jobs available type of website project will attract banks into direct advertising. I think the secret to web development today is being upfront and being as transparent as possible.

Third, with the passing of Francis Magallona and Cory Aquino, and with the Philippines going into election in May 2010, Filipinos have really started to love and support our own. As there’s not much web 2.0 developments in our country, don’t you think a release of our own product would get you massive support as being the first in specific industries?

  1. Selecting a suitable development environment depends a lot on the nature of the site and the project requirements. One needs to carefully thing about the technologies to be deployed as you are likely to live with it for a long time.

So I would like to recommend one of my client who provides solutions in both PHP and .Net technologies.

  2. @Elena: True, just like how twitter was built on ruby on rails and now suffering scalability issues etc.

    Thanks for recommending

No. 1 problem here Francis is there are no venture group that willing to support Filipino web startup project. I’m jealous of what other country like US giving support to their people like the http://www.techcrunch50.com/

  4. @Aris: exactly, I think the problem is because we don’t have that much web companies to really get things going. What I want is to bring it all here in the Philippines. But we’d be requiring lots of startups
