Many people who are new or are planning to start in this industry has probably thought ‘I wish I have known about this in the 90’s’ and probably dream to have owned domain names like business.COM, Funds.COM etc. But, come on, it’s never too late. With the economic crisis and decline of Parking revenues, development is very open. Another thing is that domainers can’t develop all their domain names…
… Just research online on how many domain names are registered, which most of the generic domain names are mostly taken. Now check how many are actually developed, not much right? If you think about it, domainers own hundreds, if not thousands of domain names. How’s that an advantage to you? Here’s how:
Time
– Time to Develop –
How long it would take them to develop all that compared to yours. At the same time, with them wanting to develop them fast and cheaply, the contents wouldn’t be as good. This means that when you make your minisite and write good contents you’d have more visitors than they will. Balance your time, and remember that you should write great contents to be able to get higher search engine ranking than the developed ones.
Openings
– Openings in Niches –
If you also research further, you’ll find quite a bit of topics (especially niche) that have none or a few developed websites for it. What you’d need to do is to research on these openings or niche and focus your time and energy there and you’d see your website rank very high in no time. What you’d need to do is to research on the openings by searching for the keyword in the search engines and look at the results. From there, you’ll find what websites rank high and how many results are there.
Browsers vs. Type-In Traffic
– Browsers becoming more integrated with Search Engines –
Before, the trend was that whatever people thought of what they need, they’ll type in their address bar and end it with a .COM. Which was the rise of type-in traffic. Today, browsers are becoming a search engine somehow, as when you try to type in a word in the address bar it either directs you to the popular websites (like Wikipedia) or put you through to Search Engine Search Results. So what happens is type-in traffic is going down and Search Engines and Browsers are getting more of the traffic. What you’d need to do is focus your time in building up SEO.
SEO + Content
– Contents needed for SEO –
Like the browsers part above, when you end up with Search Engine search results, it comes down to how well you’re positioned in SEO. Search Engines do give priority to generic domain names in a way, but if you have written great content then you’d notice that you’ll rank higher than the generic domain names. What you need to do to rank fast is to get the domain name with the target keyword in the domain name. So if your target was the word ‘domain’, you could get, for example, AmazingGreatDomain.COM.
