Why having a domain name and a website is not enough

My experience in doing business (with SME’s) here in the Philippines, is that all of them had a domain name and a website. But is that enough? I believe Philippines SME’s are lacking knowledge on the internet and how it can really improve their businesses

Yes, Filipino businesses have domain names and yes, Filipino businesses have websites but it just isn’t enough. What’s missing?

Web 2.0

Designs are generally outdated, the look, feel and the way the website can be used is not that user friendly. We need to improve our web designs and think on the consumer’s end. I have a guide for designing a web 2.0. Update and improve your website and see how it’ll improve your sales figures.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is one of the hottest topic online right now, so what does it have to do with your business? Well imagine if I was selling spoons and someone searches spoons in Search engines, will you be in the first page? This is important as users only check the first few pages in the results. And to increase your sales is by being on top of the things your company does. This could be done in many ways, but I won’t talk about it here and I’ll probably write a separate post about it, as it is a long topic.

Domain names

What domain names are you using? Are you using a TLD (Top Level Domain names) ? .COM, .NET, .INFO? Or are you using a ccTLD (Country Code Top Level Domain Names)? .PH, .COM.PH? There are a lot of misconceptions on this where people think that TLD’s are the best. But is it really the best?

I believe it’s not enough, I believe ccTLDs are the key to dominate the Philippines Internet market for the simple reason of SEO. Search Engines give more priority to local domain named websites. So it has more priority to come out in the top results. Which is where our .PH, .COM.PH becomes more important. In the future websites that will show up in search engines will be dominated by local domain names. So its best to invest now while its early or suffer the lost of traffic to your competitors.

@JS: Hi, Yes, but not as much yet. Are you a domainer js?

  • js

yup, but i have fewer domains compared to your collection. mahina ang kita sa parking. nanghihinayang ako. may na benta ka na bang domain? btw, thanks for your articles. keep posting.

@js: exactly, I was also disappointed with parking but then again maybe that’s just because our domain names are not premium TLDs. I still haven’t sold any, I’m in the process of developing my domain names.

You’re welcome, I’m glad to have you here. And please do join the forum, I want to network with PH domainers
