In general type-in traffic seems to be fairly steady and I know of experienced users that will employ a combination of search engines and direct navigation. Beginners often cannot tell the difference between an address bar and the search box and many users (not just beginners), who know the domain name of the site they are looking for, will still type it into a search engine.
