The Entertainment industry is worth billions of dollars and some movies rake in millions simply on the first day of the premiere. Today, after looking at different movie posters I’ve noticed that most of their domains are crap. Imagine a movie earning millions of dollars to have ignored a few thousand dollars on a good domain and online marketing which could’ve increased their earnings…
… Some of these movies (this includes Hollywood movies etc.) are big budget movies that have heavily spent on TV commercials and Print Ads yet they cannot get their online marketing right.
Honestly, I’ve been quite disappointed with seeing such mistakes in marketing themselves online. They are regarded as the creative minds of the world, yet a domain as simple as this they can’t even get right. Companies worth billions of dollars hand registering domains that are seriously useless, just have a look at this recent movies that are being shown:
- Michael Jackson’s This is it – ThisIsIt-Movie.com
- 2012 – WhoWillSurvive2012.com
- Paranormal Activity – ParanormalActivity-Movie.com
- Twilight New Moon – NewMoonTheMovie.com
These are just some movies that need to straighten out their domains, even if it costs them a few more thousand dollars but at least they’re sure that people are going to land on the right play and could increase their overall earnings. They should follow movies like Avatar, ZombieLand and Planet51 which have acquired their MOVIE.COM version which guarantees first page results for searches.
I’m a big fan of hollywood films but these multi million (if not billion) companies should really get their online marketing straight, its an embarrassment to not have the right domain for a huge project. Great job on Sony Pictures to have really prioritized on domains, almost all their movies I’ve checked have a good domain.

I think they are just tired of paying domainers every time a new film is ready to be launched. And in that business it´s about fast decisions, so no time to negotiate with the registrants. But agree with you that they should. For instance for 2012 they made several websites for ficticious companies, so they should definetely have invested in 2012.com
