Website Development don’t need a good domain to be successful

With me being converted into a domainer, you’d always hear a lot of us saying how important a domain is and how it can guarantee a success of a website. But being a half web developer (perspective), It really comes down to your website development, it could still be successful without the right domain…

… Have a look at the crap domains (if you look at it before) that has made it successfully: Google, Yahoo, eBay, Amazon etc. (Look at most of the weird web 2.0 domains) I mean look their domains, it doesn’t match what their business is all about or let alone have a keyword that matches what they do. So what made them successful?

– Web 2.0 Domains –

It was all about the passion, knowledge about the development topic and a great product or service. You could be the owner of the weirdest domain, but if people need your product or service, they’ll go to the ends of Google just to find you. The point is that domains are simply there to help you especially in SEO, but it doesn’t determine whether you’ll be successful or not. And even if you don’t have the exact keyword, once you get inbound links and gain popularity online then you can be number 1 in the search results even if your domain is purely unrelated.

So when you are developing, forget about the domain, its just going to add pressure to the development. Focus on your product or service and build up your brand thru that, you’ll find that people appreciate it more and more likely to buy or use your service. Rather than a half baked development that has the exact keyword domain, I can’t really imagine typing SearchEngine.COM than Google.COM.
