Website Address vs. Telephone Number on Marketing
What I find really weird is that offline marketers are not taking advantage of the internet, when they advertise offline they highlight their telephone numbers more than their website. I believe this is the time where telephone numbers should go in the background while their website address must be highlighted and shown more boldly, here’s why…
… The internet, I believe, is the best way people can REALLY market their product. The best thing about it is that not everyone is doing it, therefore there are big gaps that anyone could fill. All it takes is understanding why a website address is better.
– Website Address vs Telephone Number –
Advantages of Website Address over Telephone Number
Recall
Ever pass by and see and advert so fast that you weren’t able to catch the telephone number? Or have you ever experienced copying the number just to find that it was the wrong number? The best thing about website address is that it can be easily remembered, words have higher recall rate. Like McDonalds.com vs 123-12-12 (Fictional). It is about remembrance, just think, will the (potential or current) customer going to remember this later?
Search Engines
For telephone numbers, if you dial the wrong one then you’re directed elsewhere, but so are websites. The best thing though is that you can quickly realize that you’re in the wrong website and that all you need is to go to Google, Bing, Yahoo (Search Engines etc) to look for the name that you remember seeing a while ago. It’s not hard to look for the specific website that you wanted, while the same could not be said about telephone numbers (Like asking the operator for the number of a restaurant in a specific area).
Trust
With Telephone numbers, I don’t see anything, all I have is hearing the voice of the other person. For all I know the person is probably working in his bedroom and only wearing his underwear. With websites, there’s something that shows me that this is the company. It takes a nice design and functionality of a website to make me feel whether or not you are a legit company. The website will have the about the company page, contact details and many more information that the potential or current client will need to trust the company.
More Time spent
How much can a potential customer spend time on the phone with a company? And even if he asks sensitive question the person he’s talking to is trained to give the answers to convert him into sales. While the website will show you all the details about the product or service that you’re interested in, the customer can assess on his own time about it. It’s more of a soft sell but trust is built up.
Time Restrictions
Telephone Numbers are restricted to the opening hours of a business or in the case of having it 24 hours, companies are going to pay hefty salary to maintain this service. While websites are automated, it’s available 24 / 7 and doesn’t really need a person to work 24 hours on it. All it takes is to respond to queries or to interact with the visitors of the website.
