Ugly Minisites are supposedly earning more money than the well designed counterparts, this has been a very popular topic and has been well discussed by domainers online. However, my problem is just that I couldn’t really take seeing my website being ‘ugly’. I would spend some time and designing it, are we doing the right thing?…
… Most minisites rely on Google Adsense for revenues, and when expert domainers were discussing this, they found that comparing 2 types of minisite, the ugly minisite prevails. The biggest point was that spend less time designing and simply move on from one domain to another. Here’s I believe this is only effective in the short run…
– Is designing a minisite a mistake? –
When people go and visit your minisite, it’s either they clicked a link somewhere or from a search engine. Now when they see a nicely designed website, they stay more and interact with the website more. But when they come across the ugly minisite, they end up looking for a way out. Funny enough, most people don’t use the back button and rely on clicks to surf, so they click the links or the ads to exit your minisite. Ugly minisites are reportedly having a higher CTR (Click Through Rate) than a well designed one. It takes less effort both on designing a minisite or blending the ads. So am I doing the wrong thing designing my minisites better?
Somehow I believe I’m wasting valuable time by designing it more than it needs to be in the short run, but I’m doing alright in the long run. But one good thing I got out of it is that I’m exploring my way around Affiliate marketing. And for enough trust from your visitors to click on your links or you’ll need a properly designed minisite / website. You would click the link on a website that you don’t know let alone a link that has some weird characters on it.
As I explore into affiliate marketing, I realized that I’m doing the right thing by designing and spending a little bit more time on my websites.
