I wouldn’t consider myself as a professional in domaining but, at least, I could proudly say that I’ve gone past the beginner level and probably fall under the borderline of beginner and novice. There’s a lot of misconceptions and I learned my lessons thru either making the mistakes myself or from reading the expert domainer’s experiences. Here’s the truth about making money online with domain names…

… This is the year 2009, it’s not the 80’s or 90’s, where we could still hand register .COM or .NET that would be worth millions of dollars is just a myth. If there were any available then the domainers or someone else would’ve registered it. But it’s never too late to start domaining, where we are late is getting the hot one word premium domain names, the ones that are selling for millions (like Sex.COM, Toys.COM etc.). But there are still good domain names available, the two word combination domain names. What’s important is to find a domain name that has a high exact search query.

Making money with domain names is not about parking anymore. Domain Name parking is not going to give you stable income, some are noticing a huge decline in their parking earnings and are simply left to develop or to cut out non earning domain names (unless you are an owner of gTLD premium domain names). It’s not like before where domainers were earning thousands or millions of dollars from parking, remember internet browsers are more advanced, type in traffic is going down as browsers redirect to search engines.

– Time and money, goes hand in hand… –

To make money in domaining, you have to really spend time and money (not only for registration). Money in a sense that people have to list their domain names to auctions or to have a broker (commission) sell it for them. Time is also needed to develop or to wait for a buyer to come along. Time and Money comes hand in hand in domaining, it’s not just sit and wait anymore.

There are a lot more misconceptions but these are what is the most common for those starting. Making money online with domain names isn’t easy but it isn’t hard either, it’s all about understanding and making the right decisions to really make money. I’ve spent a lot of money to learn my mistakes, I just hope everyone else don’t do what I did.
