TechFilipino is now back up! beware of the WordPress PHP Virus

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog TechFilipino, I’ve been busy doing other things that I didn’t have enough time to continue blogging. Recently, I noticed that it was all messed up and was hit badly by a malicious PHP wordpress virus that creates weird pages (gambling, porn etc.) and redirects some of the visitors.

At first, I thought it was the web hosting that messed up. I was thinking that it could be the database that got damaged, but later on I realized that it wasn’t just them but there was also the virus that infected my website.

I noticed several .htaccess and PHP files that was inserted in many different folders. You’ll find file names like 182723.php along with a .htaccess that links to it (it even infected my whole theme). What I did was to delete all of them, clean up my files on the web hosting and revamped the whole website. Apparently, as I investigated, the virus is a common PHP virus that infects websites and redirects some of the pages to malicious sites. So make sure to check your file manager every now and then before you get banned by Google (down goes your SEO work).

Anyways, I’m somehow happy that it happened, as I learned more about how to fix up WordPress sites. I would like to personally thank Tameek of A2hosting for helping me out so much. A2hosting is lucky to have such a patient and knowledgeable agent in their team.
