We all have stumbled upon the term Voice over IP (VOIP), the most popular and widely used in the world is Skype. With Skype opening its doors to third party developers, lots of applications have been tapping the power of Skype. One of which is SkyeCandy, it is a Online Speed dating website that uses Skype to enhance the speed dating process. What’s great about it…

… is that its safe such that the system doesn’t give private information to other users. It’s also very friendly (you got to see the designs), which really makes people feel more jolly and smile more. The Icons and characters in the website is really nicely designed, but is more focused towards women (lighter colors with the cute characters). So the system would attract women more which attracts more men. Speed dating happens every 6 minutes in their website, but registered users must check in to be given a specific date and time to join the dating scene.

The system is designed for users to talk in video with their dates for 5 minutes and, by just a click of YES or NO, a user could choose if they want the other person. For a formal introduction (exchange of Skype IDs), the two speed daters must click on YES to get the other person’s Skype ID. And to take care of rejection of other speed daters, you would never meet the same person twice (unless they create multiple accounts). The best thing of all is that it’s free, so everyone could just join. However, to send SMS, is a premium service which they charge at USD $0.50. There might also be a more premium matchmaking service (with payment) that they’ll be implementing in the latter stage.

Overall, the service is wonderful. It’s free, simple, easy and people are already familiar with the use of Skype. Classified type posting and ‘personals’ website is a thing of the past, and this is the new online speed dating. It’s more transparent as you see the other person (looks) in real time and get to chat to them using voice. I believe this service has a huge potential, but let’s all see how this goes.
