Samsung goes Eco-friendly: Latest Solar Powered Touch Screen Mobile Phone

Samsung introduces the latest Solar Powered Touch Screen Mobile phone, and have called it “Blue Earth” (report here). It’s a great attempt to save the environment and, at the same time, bring more value to mobile phone users. I remember when solar mobile phone chargers came out, I was so ecstatic to get one but had a hard time using it as you have to find sunlight to charge it with. But with a charger attached to the mobile phone, it will be much easier and portable to charge the phone. Here’s how it looks:

– Samsung’s Blue Earth Phone –

I love the design, it combines the feel of nature alongside technology. Another thing to make us less guilty about owning and using mobile phones against the environment, is that it’s made from recycled plastic (extracted from water bottles) to help reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions when manufacturing and is free from harmful substances. The packaging is also made from recycled paper to be both small and light.

– Blue Earth’s (Back shot) Solar Charger –

As for the main highlight of the features is the Solar charger, which is 5 star efficient charger and with a 0.03W standby power. I cannot imagine being able to talk and charge at the same time while walking around (under the sun that is), this is something that I would personally appreciate and would like my phones to have. It uses a Unique user interface which makes the phone user environmentally aware, by using the Eco mode, screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth goes to energy efficient mode. There’s also a built in pedometer which encourages phone users to ‘eco walk‘ and shows them the trees saved and Carbon emissions that have been reduced by walking (as opposed to motor transport).

Corporate Responsibility is certainly going to the next level these days, with people becoming aware of how technology is destroying our environment, this is a nice new product for them to make up the Carbon emissions they’ve allowed us to create. I, for one, support Samsung’s cause. I think the green eco days is upon technology, and companies must do something for the environment to help the environment and thus get the support from us consumers.
