Safari 4: Browser with IPod like features, Now available

safari4 300x173 Safari 4: Browser with IPod like features, Now availableApple’s Safari has now released Safari 4. What’s really interesting is how different the features have become, what I’ve noticed is that the feel and look have changed into more of a old safari mixed with itunes and ipod features and it looks stunning. New Features include:

**Top sites: shows all the frequented websites by the user with an elegant looking page.

**Full History search / Cover Flow: Similar to the IPod’s Albums where you could browse (flip) the pictures of webpages that you’ve visited. the interface is easy to use (familiarity to IPod), where scrolling sideways shows you the pages like albums.

** Tabs are switched on the top of the browser (slide tabs to move around)

** Auto Complete on web address field (from history, top sites and bookmarks)

** Built-in Web Developer tools (Great feature finally added to the browser)

** Faster Web Browsing by using Apple’s WebKit. They claim to be the “fastest web browser on any platform.”

** And other features that were in the older safari. (Private Browsing, Autofill, etc.)

It seems like a release aimed to combat Google’s new Chrome browser. I installed Safari 4 today though and immediately dropped Firefox and now use it as my regular browser. Once Chrome comes out for OSX I’ll have to check it out and see if it compares.

@Ryan: that’s true, features are really great. But I’ve stayed with Firefox, there’s just some plugins that I need that is only in Firefox. Chrome will definitely be a big player when it comes out in OSX. I heard Microsoft’s coming out with a better one…

This is great! Apple claims that the new version of Safari will be 4x as fast as the previous one.

This is very exciting and can’t wait to test it on my Mac :)

@Eugene: That’s right, I’ve known a lot of people who started switching back to safari when 4 came out. But I’m still with Firefox.

My only beef with the Safari 4 is that I still can’t put in my stumbleupon tool bar. But overall it’s awesome! Though like you, I am holding on to my Firefox browser.

@ ThirdWorldGeek: True, gotta wait for Safari 4 plugins
