For us domainers, when we heard a lot about the promising development of ReTweet.com. We were all excited, giving positive remarks and reviews for using an exact word domain to the website. We were proud that at last someone has seen the power of domains and will show the world what it can do. But here is Retweet.com today, in auction for anyone to grab.
What was really shocking was that a lot of us domainers believe that ReTweet can definitely bring down Tweetmeme simply by using a killer domain. It also had a strong start and were featured in notable websites like TechCrunch. However, they did have a bad start, bad press on their code copying Tweetmeme and it all went downhill for them.
– Retweet.com for Sale –
Their website is now up for sale in Flippa, with a current bid of $55,555, and is going for sale for 18 more days.
I personally never used Retweet and has always used Tweetmeme, it was because they were first and I never saw the point why I should switch or have both. I hope the new owner could rebrand Retweet to something else rather than “just” being another Tweetmeme. This is just a classic tale of killer domain gone wrong, even if you own the best ever domain but don’t really have a good website to back it up then it all falls.
