This idea just popped into my head as a taxi was passing me by. They update themselves thru radio communications from traffic to local events to whatever is happening in town. There are several competitors in the field such as Yelp, Qype but they rely on information thru local people. But taxi drivers are updated are updated in many ways like thru radio, passengers, calls or text from friends etc. So I thought who’d be the best person to recommend places to go if you didn’t know anyone in the local area. So here’s how it’s going to work:
Most taxi companies have radio communication one from the taxi cab and another to the central office. Imagine the Human powered Search Engine, but instead of Search Engines it will be for traffic updates, local happenings, and directions to places (and probably to order taxi as well). So the website will have sub-domains for local places (example UK.taxirecomment.com, PH.taxirecommend.com etc.), and the user can choose which area to get recommendations from. Questions are submitted thru the website and the taxi companies will answer those by asking their taxi drivers the questions and submit the info back to the website.
Possible revenue stream is being able to send text messages to query the website. Profit sharing for every taxi fare referral from the website. And thru advertising.
Unclear thoughts:
Is it just one taxi company per country? or Multiple companies?
Profit sharing per country with taxi company?
What do you guys think?
