We’re all familiar on text and banner advertising, which is widely used online by a lot of publishers. Google has released video adsense ads and innovid even went a bit further in creating more interactive video advertisements which makes it more effective. But how about images? Pixazza enters the market as a way for publishers or advertisers to place advertisements in the images of the publisher. What’s great about it…
… is that you’re able to monetize the images, which works like affiliate marketing, where the publisher gets a cut of every sale that a visitor of your website purchases. Here’s how it looks like:

How it works is that the visitor will see tags that are inserted in the picture, when they highlight the tags in the image a sort of lightbox pops out. The Lightbox will contain the item that is similar to what the person is wearing, just like the second picture. What’s great about it is that it’s not so much of a hard sell like affiliate marketing links and is quite attractive to visitors as they see how they could dress up like the picture. It’s also for publishers to have it on their website, all they have to do is embed a javascript and the pictures are automatically placed with affiliate links.

Currently, its by approval only when you apply, so you’ll have to meet a certain criteria that they’re looking for. I’m still waiting for approval right now (2nd day of waiting). To how effective it will be is yet to be proven, lower consumer spending power with the recession, might have a worse effect on this business right now. But, overall, it’s a great way to monetize images which a lot of image based websites or blogs could benefit on. With the recent recession, ‘soft’ selling might be the key and showing actual items that is being worn could entice the users to purchase the items. It’s going to be a wait and see thing for image advertisements, but great innovation nonetheless.
