Pimple / Zit Popping Website – PopThatZit

One of the most popular websites that was trending yesterday isn’t a very simple website, its a website that revolves around popping pimples or zits. PopThatZit.com, Disgusting as it may sound, it has been gathering significant traffic and searches online. PopThatZit has become one of the popular trending websites thanks to the exposure it got from the Tyra Banks show…

… The interesting thing about it is that I didn’t realize that there are many people searching for popping pimples or zits online, and worse, they enjoy watching such things. With around 76 thousand unique visitors per month, their website seems to be doing really well.

As I checked around for the domain’s records, I found that it was registered privately and that the domain has been registered in ’96. What’s really interesting about it (aside from the pimples and zits) is that it is WordPress based, and allows users to submit their photos or videos directly to the website. It is somehow similar to the ICanHasCheezBurger concept, which allows users to interact with the site. What’s more interesting is that the website seem to be operating for a while with around 1220 user submitted contents (122 pages X 10 contents each). It even has a forum, as well as a chatroom in the website where users can discuss about popping zits or pimples. It makes money out of PPC from Google Adsense and has seem to have spread it around the right places and must be making lots of money.

Even for a website that gets 75k unique visitors, the website looks pretty old. But regardless of looks, its the contents that count and users flock the site for it. I’m very impressed on how a simple concept could grow so large. Its an inspiration to a lot of domainers on how to grow a small minisite into a huge website with the use of tools to let users interact with the website. Now for some well deserved time in the toilet to throw up…
