There’s several ways in generating domain names, some using their automatic name generator and one that I’ve featured before called Namethis, which is Crowd Sourced Domain name generator. But searching the web, I came across another crowd sourced domain name generator called PickyDomains. What’s great about it…
… is that compared to NameThis, the rates for the domain naming service is lower (Costing around $50 vs. $99). There’s also a moderator that moderates the domain names generated by the crowd, it makes it easier for the ‘client’ (asking people for help for domain naming) to get more relevant and human-filtered results. There’s no risk to the ‘client’. The system basically asks the client to deposit $50 to get the domain name that they want, but if they were not to find anything that interests or fits their needs then they could do a full refund.
However, there is a risk to the contributors that a domain name might not be picked. When this happens nobody gets paid anything at all, with time wasted on research. But looking at how simple it is to throw suggestions in (with the amount of domain name automatic generators around), it would just be a simple task of throwing lots of domain names.
Overall, I like the service, it’s risk free and lower costs to clients. I personally believe that it’s a good way to really get a great domain names (vs. automatic generators) that people will definitely remember. I support the crowd sourcing movement, and what I find best about PickyDomains is that they make it to a point of moderating crowd sourced contents and in the process, bring in more relevant results. In times of recession, showing less risk to clients will make it go a long way, people don’t have much money to waste and will go lean so the less risk the better it is of attracting paying clients in.
