Maybe I’m a Developer more than a Domainer

domainer web developer conflict Maybe Im a Developer more than a DomainerIs being a domainer just about buying and selling of domains? Or are there domainers who buy and develop? I’ve always thought of domaining as a way for me to buy, develop and earn passive income thru SEO. But recently, I’ve started to wonder if I’m doing the right thing.

When I first started in domaining, I was first a web developer. My vision was really to build and maintain interesting and useful websites that will bring value to internet visitors. But along the way, when you realize that there’s a shortage of skills in the Philippines and be enticed by the fact that Domain.com has sold for X million, you kind of think I gotta get in it. But as I started to create some ugly looking and for-robot content minisites to build my portfolio, I started to realize that I’ve started to drift away from what I initially planned out.

Conflicts in Domaining

1 year later, here’s what I realized. A lot of my minisites gained good traffic at the beginning but as time went by traffic started to drop and things aren’t sunshines and rainbows. My solution was then to focus on a few websites and start to develop them for a long term and guess what it worked. My revenues doubled and there are days that is quadrupled, but what I found that is crucial is to focus and develop on a few. I then suddenly remembered why I started the company and what my passion really is, and I seem to have forgotten why I started. Today, with a capable team for my Web company, I believe I’m more capable in making great looking and useful websites. I’m starting to realize that I’m first a web developer and second as a domainer. Focus on a few and make it useful before moving on to the next project.

Sometimes I found a lot of principles in Domaining and Web Developing a conflict, but everyone’s got their own direction and views. End of the day, you do have to think about your priorities and why you do it in the first place.
