Brandable domain names are domain names that doesn’t always make sense, For example Google.com, Yahoo.com etc, which are turned into brand names later on. Unlike domainers (domain name investors), buyers of Brandable domain names tend to be people who would like to develop into a website or a company brand wanting a website. Here’s a guide on how to get the best Brandable domain name for your website:
What Name?
– Think of an original name –
Have you got an idea on what you want to call your website? If you have try searching it if it’s still available, if it is go grab it straight away as someone might take it. If it’s not available, try thinking of other names like your nickname, some available domain names from DomainPigeon, generate some other types of domain names thru NameBoy.
Add a Keyword
– Add another related word to your name –
If you’re still stuck with what name, another suggestion of mine is to either use keywords fully or mix it with some keywords. This is very important as Search Engines ‘apparently’ gives more points to those with a related keyword in their domain name. This is like how I named my other website JoinMinds which I’ve used two common words together. Or you could also add a keyword that is related to your topic and mix it with the name you thought of. It could be an topic, category, activity etc. Think about what your website will be all about, which in my case TechFilipino is about Tech stuff (Read more in the about page).
Short and Simple
– Would other people remember if you tell them? –
Keep it as short and simple as you can, think of it like a test where you have to tell someone your website over the phone. Will they remember? Would they misspell it? Would they end up in another website? I think these are the crucial questions you have to ask yourself before getting one.
Domain Name Extension
– Where do you want it to reach? –
Who’s your target market? Are you going to target worldwide or only a country specifically? The two types of Domain name Extensions are TLD (Top Level Domain Names) and ccTLD (Country-code Top Level Domain Names), TLD’s are the ones that end in .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO etc.; while ccTLD are the ones that are more specific to countries like .PH, .CN, .CO.UK etc. If your target is in just one country, it might be best to get the ccTLD as you’d be getting higher SEO (Search Engine Optimization) points. But if your target is still unsure, it’s safe to get a TLD (specifically .COM or .NET) to capture a worldwide market but harder to get SEO.
