How do people react when you tell them that you’re a Domainer?

domainer reaction How do people react when you tell them that youre a Domainer? How do people react when you tell them that you’re a domainer? Do you normally get blank faces? Or people saying “Yeah, ummm, what is it?”. Well that’s what I usually get in Asia and it can really get demotivating at times as they do get the wrong impression and think that you’re wasting your time rather than you’re doing something innovative or new.

What’s even worse at times is that your family or friends don’t really get it and find it weird about what you do (LOL!). They’re like, “Oh right so you do websites. I want a website for my business, how much for one?” or the best one I heard is “You’re the guys that invest in brands and make money off them right?”. Being from the Philippines, we’re so known in outsourcing that every company does it or so does everyone think.

So you’re a Domainer

What I normally tell them is that I’m a domainer and what I do is invest in domains. I would go on and explain what I do and they say yup yup while really not having an idea about what I do. What’s even more bizarre is that when my parents see me working, they’ll tell me to stop playing computer games (LOL!). But despite this, I still choose to be a domainer, simply because I believe in the opportunity that its going to give me. Maybe people would not understand what we do but that’s other successful entrepreneurs had to go thru before they were successful. End of the day, you’d need to believe in it and keep going to be successful.

Domaining will always be something that I’ll do whether it is part time or full time, it’s exciting and promises a huge opportunity with little competitors. I believe it’s about learning the game and keeping at it to be successful.

@TechFIlipino, You are not alone. Those reactions that you described is so true to me. Very difficult to explain. I guess because you can not see nor hear web traffic per se. It is like a wind blowing on my side and not yours. I will be able to feel it and you will think I am hallucinating. Bottom line, as long as you are generating cash, then there is oil on the ground. Build a bigger pump. Learn the technology and network with the right people. Sooner or later, you will make it. Not until you can show something tangible from the fruits of your work that you will prove your point. Otherwise you will be a victim of “Talk is cheap” syndrome.

@DIgs: LOL, that’s so true. Some of the Successful people today have gone thru this as well. You’re right, as long as we’re generating cash then there shouldn’t be a problem and when it grows they’ll know.
