How companies or individuals should register a new domain name

I remember the first time I registered some of my domain names, there were a lot of hesitations and questions that I had. There are questions on to how it all works and also how safe it would be for us to use credit cards online (yes, this has been and still is a problem especially here in the Philippines). So I’d like to share some tips with everyone that is thinking to get themselves a domain name…

Research

First thing is to think of a good name for yourself, I’ve written some tips here. To summarize it up, it’s basically thinking about what topics your website will be and mixing and matching keywords together (if the domain name that you want is unavailable. Some keywords that you can add are Topics, Activities, Products / Services, Location etc. For example, our company is called BlueWater Day Spa but since BlueWater.COM is taken we had to go with BlueWaterDaySpa.com.

Save Money

If you register with companies like GoDaddy, there are several ways in which you could really save money. One is to use Promo Codes and the other is Bulk Registration.

Promo Codes are codes that will give you certain Discounts and Promotions to your purchase. These can be found all over the internet, this is a sample screenshot on where you can place the promo codes:

What you need to do is to search for “GoDaddy Promo Codes Month Year”, I’ve added the month and year because Promo Codes have expiry dates and keeps on changing on monthly basis. Try to spend a little more time into finding a promo code as it could save you as high as 30% off the money you’re going to spend.

You can also try the Bulk Registration feature, if you need more domain names. These can save you money as there are certain discounts that correspond to certain volumes. These can also be mixed with promo codes to make the discount larger. Some promo codes are designed to get to a certain value before it can be applied. For example, 30% off if your purchases are bigger than $75. So be smart, spend your money wisely and get the most out of your internet investments.
