It’s good to hear that finally a Philippines company is understanding the power of a generic domain. I saw it on TV on an advert in a sports channel, Wendys Hamburger has got a generic domain that everyone will surely remember, it’s hamburgers.ph. It’s been their domain since November 2008 (according to Compete’s record). Finally a Filipino company has seen the power of domains…
… Wendy’s hamburger started in 1983 here in the Philippines and operates 31 stores. I was a big fan of their burgers especially the one in Greenhills until they renovated the mall and has removed their branch there (Fire at Virramall). It might not be intentional but their choice of domain is a good choice.
Their domain Hamburgers.ph is great as they rank number 2 in Google search Results for the keyword ‘hamburgers’. What I would recommend though is that they should have secured other domains like wendys.ph, wendy.ph, and hamburger.ph. Hamburger has 1,300 exact searches, while hamburgers has only got 140 exact searches. The good thing is that the term Wendys, they have the top result in Google.
I like the fact that a Philippines Company has used a domain that is generic and refers directly to their product, I hope more companies see this trend more otherwise they’ll soon miss out a lot on online marketing and not to mention cyber squatters closing in on their brand. It might be worth spending more now than spend a lot on court cases or buying their domains later.
