Friendster-Layouts : Niche Marketing success?

One of the most popular websites Filipinos do visit is Friendster-Layouts.com . Friendster is the top social networking website that we use in the Philippines, however there are also other social networks that Filipinos used such as Multiply, Facebook or MySpace. Yet the website just focuses on Friendster, a niche market yet with such big demand.

What’s really interesting is that 15,416 Templates and 20 Categories as of the moment (January 9,2009), also it really helps the online community. How it works is that someone would post a request for a template and community members would create it for them for free. But, as Facebook is slowly penetrating the Philippines market, it will be interesting to see how it does in the future. Yet some there are some implications that could occur, such as the theme taken down by Friendster for using copyright materials. Would there be any legal liabilities for the users?

Overall, I like this idea of helping each other in the community. I think dominating a (large) niche market and being on top is brilliant.
