Domainers are like Artists

But my own definition of domaining is buying, selling or developing domain names. Domaining isn’t simply buying and selling anymore, people have started to move towards domain name development. Being a domainer is similar to being an artist…

… Here are some of the similarities I found between what a domainer and an artist has to go thru:

Inspiration / Ideas

We need constant inspiration or ideas to move forward, just like how artists would paint or plan for their next painting. Domaining isn’t simply sitting at home and just competing in bidding or developing your domain names, but it is about learning from our experiences and getting our next inspiration for our next project. Some domainers get their ideas thru travelling, vacations, everyday life etc., just like how artists do. So you’d really need to find that inspiration of yours and focus on that.

Patience

Artists needs time to paint their picture and really add all the elements or colors that they believe are needed, while domainers need time to develop or sell their domain names. Patience is really plays a big part, it actually takes time to build yourself up and eventually earn good money from it but till that time comes along, be patient and keep yourself motivated. Developing can take a few days to years, and so does selling, so don’t expect that domaining is a quick rich schemes that you could go in and out fast. Build up your portfolio, focus on giving quality domain names or developments.

Determination

An artist’s art can remain in the gallery for a long time, some even don’t sell for years. The point here is that in domaining, we’ve got to be determined and ready that people aren’t going to buy when we display our domain names or even come and visit our developments. It could take time and money (sometimes lots of it) to really get it going, you’ve got to remain determined and you’ll learn the ways around how to be successful in it.
