I didn’t start out as a domainer, but more of a developer. I wanted to make great web 2.0 / 3.0 websites and be able to run it just like the way they do in silicon valley. However, as I got down to business, I soon realized the power of domain names and started investing in it, which has made me into a ‘domain name developer’…
As a domainer developer, I find it an advantage to understand the power of both worlds. Web 2.0 / 3.0 startups value their system more and invest their time and hard work to make a system while saving up on unnecessary expenses like generic domain names. While domainers invest on domain names hoping for a end user to come along and buy it at the highest price off them.
In my experience, I’ve learned that good generic domain names that are left parked might not yield much revenues. A good web 2.0 / 3.0 concept, on the other hand, doesn’t get appreciated much without much promotion or marketing efforts to get visitors in. It’s about time that domainers and developers partner up and start making beautiful websites.
– Experience, for me, is the best teacher –
Some companies in Silicon Valley is making great deal of money with one website, what more if it was coupled with a great generic domain name? I’m encouraging this as this is what I do right now, I’ve partnered up with other developers to get more out of my domain names. What I like most about it is that you have a name or topic to start with and make a system out of it, unlike before where you brainstorm concepts and then to find that the domain name is taken (Where you then settle to some weird brandable web 2.0 domain names). I’d be listing my experiences, success and failures as I learn more on this business.
