Minisites are one of my favorite development, as it requires a short amount of time and a long lasting investment without much effort, it is somehow a passive form of income. I’ve recently developed and launched around 4 minisites (and still continuing…), I’m lucky that I was able to grab premium ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domain Names) that meant instant traffic as I launched it on the first day. Videos are what I believe the best way to enhance your minisite…
… The minisites that I’ve developed have used free embedded videos from video sharing websites. Videos from video sharing websites like YouTube, Hulu, MetaCafe, etc. These are what my findings was for using videos:
Enhance and give value to content
– Make your content really useful –
One thing that I noticed is that visitors want relevant and helpful content, usual minisites are made for SEO and not much for content. This is where videos can help, with your usual contents all you have to do is add the video along side it. It will greatly enhance your contents by providing more information and sometimes really useful ones.
This has been a hot topic for bloggers over the years, on how some blogs have value and some don’t. Some bloggers even went as far as not wanting to be associated with others that doesn’t give value, which I totally agree. The main point here is to give valuable content to visitors. This could add more visitor loyalty (repeat visits) or even references from other websites or research.
No SEO implications with copying exact content
– Duplicate videos doesn’t matter –
Search Engines usually penalizes Duplicate content, and writing for minisites is not the easiest task. With videos, you can just start embedding videos fully with just some original writeup and it doesn’t affect your SEO so much.
Visitors spend more time
– How much time are they spending on the website –
What we want is for visitors to stay on your minisite at the longest time possible. Videos, in my experience, have added more minutes in my minisites. The best thing about it is that the longer the visitors stay the more they believe that your website is not just a minisite but a website that gives information and valuable contents. Also with more time spent, the higher chances it will have of visitors clicking on your website. Higher CTR’s will increase your domain name’s value, which is the ultimate domainers goal.
