Domain Names or domaining are becoming a bigger and bigger business each year, with media exposure on blockbuster sales like Candy.com. However, although I’m a domainer, I’m beginning to see what could happen later on in this industry. I’m purely speculating on this but I’ve based my speculations on factors that are currently happening in the domaining industry.
– This is how it feels going into a parked domain name –
Â
There are so many premium domain names that are for sale in the after market, it comes with price tags that are sky high. However, notice how these domain names are, they’re usually parked or outdated, with contents that applies a few years back or just full of advertisements. It is somehow why people believe domainers are cyber squatters, because their domain names are not relevant and just full of advertisements.

– Search Engines play the role of ‘god’ online –
Sooner or later internet browsers are going to be dependent on search engines, just like how when you type a keyword in Firefox it looks for the .COM and if not sends you to Google. And with search engines bringing in more than 60% of traffic to websites, priority comes down to SEO. Which is why I believe, for example, realestate.COM could get higher traffic than estate.COM in the search of real estate. This is why Google’s domain name only is worth around $30 million, but plus the traffic it brings in, some people were valuing them for a good $20 – 30 Billion.
The negativity towards domainers and with dependency on Search Engines might later get them to give a little less priority over domain names than updated and relevant contents. And as browsers become link us directly to search engines, search engines become more powerful. So for example, I’m getting lots of search engine traffic for people search domain names and might be better compared to other domain name websites.
The point here is that SEO will be the new domain name, this is why domainers are being forced to develop their domain names, it’s purely because Seach Engines want it. More traffic means more advertising revenues. The only way this is not going to happen is if domainers start developing these domain names to relevant contents (which search engines will appreciate and start giving heavier priority towards domain names), or if businesses start buying and linking it to their relevant product, service or any marketing campaign. I hope that I’m wrong because I do own some premium ccTLD’s, but this is one of the main reasons why I’m developing them even if it takes me a few weeks, I’m adding relevant contents and properly designing them.
