Domain Name Investment: Funny Things about domainers

Being a domainer, there’s a lot of things that people don’t know about us. But just like any industry, there are so many funny things about us that not everyone realizes. Look at domainers talking to a normal person with basic internet knowledge and here’s what you’ll probably notice:

Every word people say becomes a domain name

– mmmmmm…..Domain names –

The funniest thing about us, domainers, is that every word we hear becomes a domain name in our head. I remembered once going to a conference and as I was listening to the speaker of the conference, instead of absorbing the speech, I was starting to take notes of words that I could build on to make domain names. Like if someone was to ask me “Do you want some candies?”, I’m probably thinking “is wantcandy.COM available?”.

They become bored

– See their eyes slowly… shut –

Although internet has been around for a while now, domaining is, for me, still considered an undiscovered land. When (majority of) people ask me what I do and I tell them I’m in the domaining business, they all give me this blank face. As I explain and they get it, what usually happens is that they either change the topic quickly or pretend to know a little and engage me until I notice how they don’t understand (but pretend to understand) while their eyes are almost shut, go deeper and they’ll go to sleep.

We start preaching

– It somehow felt like giving a Sunday Sermon –

When I notice that the person I’m talking to doesn’t know much about domain names, I start preaching. I start to think like a priest and start convincing them that they’re wrong to have such domain names and that they need to repent for their sins. They don’t even get me and they just don’t give a damn about domain names.
