I’ve been a domain name investor (domainer) for about a year now, it’s never easy but it’s the most interesting and fun. Never have I imagined that certain words costed so much money. My domain name investments are focused on 4 extensions which are .COM, .NET, .BZ, and .PH…
… I’ve tried to invest in .CO.UK, .US, .CN and .IN, but I found that all (maybe most) their premium domain names are taken. So instead of me going for words that might be available I’ve decided to invest in other extensions that have the premium names available (aside from gTLDs).

.COM and .NET has always been quite natural for me to invest in. It was the first extensions that I bought, I always thought that if you take the .COM then you naturally have to protect the .NET. .COM and .NET commands the highest price in the domain name aftermarket and is widely recognized by most as the official domain names. Its registration fee is also cheaply priced at around $7 (could go lower with promo codes or bulk), which makes it very attractive to a lot of domain name investors. These names comprises around 30% of my portfolio, there are some I bought for my projects (which are brandable domain names) and some for investments which are keyword rich.
.BZ was the next one that I’ve tried to invest to diversify my portfolio to ccTLDs, I found that there were a lot of premium domain names in this extension that were available. What’s also great about this is the way it is somehow a typo of the .BIZ (gTLD) extension (just like the .CM vs .COM). It costs quite a bit, around $24.99 per year, but I’ve secured 3 domain names as a trial investment. I’ve invested in Hospital.BZ, Fare.BZ, Lots.BZ. Belize (BZ) only has 300,000 + population but it’s the only English speaking country in Central America and is popular with tourists.
.PH and .COM.PH is the extension that I’ve invested the most, it composes more than 60% of my portfolio. Being a Filipino, it was quite natural to invest in our own. The advantage is that I’m still early, lots of premium domain names are available and the future is promising. With a huge population around 100 million English speaking people, it’s just a matter of time before technology catches up which gives me the early advantage. As to whether .COM.PH or .PH, I’ve written about that issue here. I’m currently developing my PH domain names and continue to see a good rise in traffic without much effort.
