When I first started domaining, I researched about good domain names and if they’re all taken. To my surprise, I found that most are actually taken which got me a bit demoralized and frustrated (why I didn’t do it earlier). So are all good domain names taken? Today, I believe it’s not all taken, it’s just a matter of where you look…
… The problem is that people like me (when I first started), have written so much about how all good domain names are all taken (which we didn’t know where and how to look for it). It is somehow true as there’s really rare good domain names that we can register these days, but it is available for sale in the domain name aftermarket.
If you check on Sedo or SnapNames, you’ll find thousands of domain names each day for sale and some could be way expensive and there are some that is a great catch. It is really a matter of where you look, it could cost more in the aftermarket but it is worth it. I also want to mention about WannaDevelop’s blog, they blog about really great domain names that are up for grabs.
– Expired Domain Names is a good way to go –
There’s also the expiring domain name market, where other people have built their brand on and some who forgot to renew (or left to expire) their good domain names. You’ll need to search websites like Pool or GoDrops to find what are expiring and try to grab (aka BackOrdering) it thru SnapNames (They’re supposed to be the leading company in this field). If 2 or more people backorder the same name then you’d be going into a bidding, so make sure you’d be prepared to compete when this happens.
What’s important here is that we don’t register the first domain name that we find available just because we can save money, buying might cost you $100 or less but it is better for your long term goal. Be patient and look for the right domain name for yourself, don’t settle for the first thing that comes along, settle for the best.
