Domain name investing is simply a trial and error type of learning for me. Many experts would say to read and educate yourself before you leap, but I simply had a different point of view (coming from a web 2.0 ideology). Short and cool domain names were worth a million in my eyes and really coming to terms with domaining was a very long trial and error process for me…
… Web 2.0 taught me that it wasn’t all about the domain name, but it is what your website can do regardless of how crappy your domain name is. While domaining taught me that its all about the domain name that makes a website successful by being “more†present in search engines.
– How much have you tried and failed? –
I’ve tried buying crap domain names and wanting to turn it into something but failed. I’ve tried getting highly searched domain names by hand registration but failed (didn’t get the exact term and used the broad search, doh!). I’ve tried pitching crap domain names to domain name experts (which I’m embarrased about) and failed again. Name it, I’ve pretty much tried it, and its what the failures that makes me more knowledgeable and better in domain name investing.
I finally found my direction which is not really in buying and selling domain names but in developing domain names. I’m comfortable in this direction and is allowing me to hit my targets to reach my main goal. I think Domain name investing requires a person to find what they’re comfortable and good with and focus on that direction.
