For a lot of domainers out there, minisites are the way to go these days. I’ve written about my minisite developments here, here, and here, where I highlighted how easy and fast it is to set a Wordpress website. One of the best thing about Wordpress is the fact that it has so many free and ready made plugins that anyone could use. Here’s my essential list of wordpress plugins for your minisite:
Akismet
– Get the SPAM filtered out –
This plug-in is usually included when you install Wordpress. Akismet helps you filter out spams in the comment section. The best benefit of it all is that Search Engines penalizes websites that link to spam websites so you get minus points on SEO for just having those links and Akismet filters these unwanted links away. At the same time, it helps to make your website look clean and doesn’t give the user a thought of it being just a minisite.
All-In-One SEO
– Better SEO for your wordpress minisite –
This plugin really does wonders for Wordpress, it does really well on optimizing your website for Search Engines. It automatically inserts and adjusts meta tags and titles that are according to Search Engine standards. This has helped my minisites a lot as it gets optimized for specific keywords that I want to target. You have to, however, add your own keywords for each page, so for each post there’s some manual labor for us to do.
Statpress
– Analytics on your own Website –
This thing is like Google Analytics on your own server, what’s really cool about it is that it gives detailed statistics of visitors to your website. You could view your website statistics as it happens (refresh page to get updated data) and more information on the visitor’s computer, OS, browser, location, Page viewed and time spent. I was able to find out which pages are doing well over the others that needed modification.
Post Layout
– You don’t have to repeat the codes for ads in your pages –
This plugin does wonders for your Wordpress site, it removes the hassle of reinserting certain codes in single pages. It basically allows you to insert codes in different pages of you website by just using the control panel in the admin section. I used it to add advertisements (PPC) to the top, middle and bottom part of each page and posts; and also to add codes on the top and bottom part of comments.
