I’ve only been using Pay per click (PPC) on all my websites to monetize, it somehow is disappointing that you really can’t make really decent income off PPC (enough I meant to live off from). And consulting and reading other experts talk about it confirms my results, what they recommend is digging deeper into affiliate marketing and see how it can earn me more money than PPC could ever provide…
… I believe one of the biggest problems of PPC is that everyone knows about them, what made it profitable before is the fact that people were clicking it to find our more about the ad. But as more and more people know that it is an actual ad, Click Through Rates (CTR) fall right?
– Affiliate Marketing CTR are generally higher –
PPC rely on accidental clicks (exactly why we place it where it is visible) most of the time, therefore ad blending, placement and other techniques have been used to increase CTR. I chose PPC before because it was easy, simple, and most importantly, updates itself automatically. But the drawbacks are you’re limited to 3 ad units per page and the low income, if you were only getting 5% – 10% CTR at $0.20 per click (it could be more depending on the topic, but this is a more general figure), how much traffic and clicks do you need to earn a decent income?
But look at Affiliate Marketing, you are in total control, you can make or choose the right ad that will appear on your website and repeat it as much as you want. You can even mask the link to look like an internal link and redirect it to the actual site, protecting your link and attracting clicks. The most important thing to compare it with PPC is that it pays more. You might not be paid by the click but each sale or lead could get you more than $1 and as you control the ads, CTR’s are higher. What’s great is that there are different options like per lead, per sale, per download / install etc., some of these options are free for the customer (like just filling up a survey) and therefore can earn you a lot.
I’m starting to explore affiliate marketing more deeper, as I feel that I’ve exhausted different PPC techniques that have increased my CTR but not too much on my overall earnings. It will take time but I’m sure it will make my earnings much better this year.
