Developing Minisites: How to develop a good minisite for your domain names

howtodevelopagoodminisite developingminisites Developing Minisites: How to develop a good minisite for your domain namesBeing a domainer and a developer, it is quite important for me for my domain names to go up in value and monetize at the same time (to recover registration costs). Being interested with web 2.0 projects, it takes months or years to develop. So in the meantime, while the projects are being developed, Minisites are placed in my domain names. Developing minisites, ‘today’, isn’t exactly easy, here are what I believe are important factors when building a minisite:

More & Target Contents

Most Minisites contain around 1 – 5 pages of information, which is enough (a few years back). Today, with more websites being developed, where some already have older age (which search engines give priority), competition in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) becomes tougher. To be able to compete with them, you’d have to have more contents which I recommend around 20 pages or more of contents. Make sure that your contents are original, so that you get more Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Also, think about bringing value to your visitors with your content, that way you’ll have repeat visits (more visits = more revenues = higher value).

Also, make sure to target the right keywords, there’s no point competing in a field where millions are fighting for SEO. I recommend going to Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool, and type in your target keyword to find similar keywords that you can compete in.

Better design & Layout

Minisites are still all designed very poorly, the look is very old (like the web 1.0 designs). Minisite owners need to work on a better design, taking a bit more time on the layout, as well as, graphic designs to make it look less of a minisite.

I recommend going for the web 2.0 look, where livelier colors are used and it’s more simple and minimalist style of layout. What we all have to remember is that internet users are becoming more aware of the existence of minisites and somehow relates it to scam websites, so we need to update our minisites and try to put ourselves in the visitors shoes.

SEO

By having original and targetted (keywords) content, you’re already doing great for SEO. Also make sure to submit your domain name URL to Search Engines, especially to the top 3 which are Google, Bing and Yahoo. It is important for search engines to see you to give you more traffic. There are more ways in getting better SEO, but these are just basic recommendations, the better your SEO is, the better you’ll be getting traffic to your website.
