Developing Domain Names: Wordpress and premium domain names

developingdomainnameswordpresspremium Developing Domain Names: Wordpress and premium domain namesI wasn’t always a domainer, I’ve always been a developer interested in making web 2.0 websites. It was only as I was looking for domain names for my own projects that I started to find it fun and somehow addictive. But just like other beginners, I thought offers would just start to come in but I was very wrong. So I developed…

I’ve tried placing my domain names in parking services thinking that it would get offers, but there was none and I only got around $0.10 for a month (at $0.02 per click). And as I invested in a mix of Top Level Domain Names (TLD) and Country Code Top Level Domain Names (ccTLD), there was totally different demand and awareness about it. I was able to grab brandable TLDs (.COM & .NET) and premium ccTLDs (.BZ & .PH).

My TLDs are for development and as web 2.0 ideas take months to develop, which my company Gang Ventures is currently handling. So I thought I could personally take time and develop my Premium ccTLDs which I used the open-sourced Wordpress (instead of domain name parking).

Wordpress is widely known for blogging, but if used correctly, Wordpress could be developed into different sort of projects. And because I’ve been using Wordpress for this website and got quite used to it, it was natural for me to stick to it. The advantages of Wordpress are:

  • Free
  • Easy Installation
  • Easy to edit
  • Not much need for much programming knowledge
  • Lots of free really useful plugins
  • Tons of free themes available
  • Great Search Engine Optimization
  • WYSIWYG (‘What you see is what you get’) editor

When I develop these domain names, I spend more time in designing the images, the layout and the contents so it would look like a proper website as opposed to an advertisement website. Watch.PH and Workout.PH were my first two projects and I was able to see the real benefits of having premium domain names.

I designed logos and icons, as well as, tweaking the themes to suit my domain name. The whole topic revolves around the domain name (like watch.ph is to wristwatches). As I was writing contents, after designing the website, there were already visitors coming to the website. And in a day, without marketing and purely making an SEO website, I was able to get around 10 visitors a day with almost 1 to 2 clicks per day on PPC.

I highly recommend this than just parking your domain names, these development is exciting and educational. It earns more and in the long run it will get more SEO and would go higher in value. I’m a developer at heart , and these are just temporary projects while the actual project is being developed.
