Web 2.0 introduced user generated content, it was such a big hit, investments and startups sprung like mushrooms which focused on their own niches. But as web 2.0 is dying, is it the end of user generated content? Is web 3.0 about professional contents?…
Web 2.0 has always been a good innovation online, it has produced so many great websites that we all use today (like Facebook). But with people getting used to user generated content, everyone questions ‘quality’. For example, if you were searching how to fix a computer, would you trust someone doing it in their bedroom vs a professionally done with well High Quality Video?
– What would you prefer Professional or Amateur Contents? –
What I’ve noticed on my own search patterns is that I start to look at the links that I click and see if it’s a known website and then judge the content on whether or not it’s professional and from there I’ll decide whether to stay or to move to the next search result. This is what I believe happens with everyone else, everyone gets wiser, majority of visitors know what’s done by a professional or an amateur. So with less traffic and less time spent on the website, who’d be interested in advertising with them? Or even pay them subscription fees for contents? It’s just not worth the money.
I think we’ve all gone pass the User Generated Content, we want more professional more in depth knowledge and reliable sources that we can appreciate and be more useful to us. Just like how YouTube is prioritizing professional videos, closing deals with major media networks. User generated Content are way too rampant and sometimes are just not useful enough for everyone to appreciate, hence the death of web 2.0.
