Country Code Top Level Domain Names (CCTLD): 5 reasons why the future of Domain Names are in CCTLDs

cctlddomainname Country Code Top Level Domain Names (CCTLD): 5 reasons why the future of Domain Names are in CCTLDsWe are all familiar with .com’s, .net’s, .info’s etc., and those are called Top Level Domain Names (TLD). But try to find some great TLD that you could register, and you’ll normally find that most of the great ones are taken or are being sold at a really high price. So where can we invest our money in the domain name industry? It’s CCTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domain Names), which is the domain names available for each country. I’ve listed 5 good reasons, why I believe it is the future.

Why CCTLD?

1. Search Engine Friendly

searchenginefriendly Country Code Top Level Domain Names (CCTLD): 5 reasons why the future of Domain Names are in CCTLDs

When you go to a Search Engine (e.g. typing Google.com in your address bar), notice that when you get there, you’re redirected to your own country code Domain names (in my case, I was redirected to Google.com.ph).

Upon using search, most of the results are localized if *possible*. So priorities (or rather more points) are given to CCTLDs as opposed to the TLD counterpart. And the reason why is given in the next topic.

2. Relevant Content

So why do Search Engines give more points to CCTLD? In the quest of search engines to provide the best search results, it needs to provide quality and relevant search results. And so the reason is that CCTLDs provide search results that are relevant in the country level. For example, If I was to search shopping malls, it won’t be relevant to show results like shopping malls in the U.S.. So this is why it is given more points (in SEO) than other TLDs in search.

3. Premium Domain names available

Try to find a unregistered Premium (2, 3, 4 characters or single dictionary word) TLD, and you’ll find almost all of it are already registered to either individuals or big Domain Name companies. When you go to registrars to search these premium domain names, they’re sold at $500 and above (considering that some are already 2 word TLD).

CCTLDs gives a fresh start to a lot of people who want to enter the domain name business a chance to own their very own premium domain names. Although most CCTLDs are priced higher, it at least guarantees that you get a very short and memorable domain name address.

4. Shorter

TLD’s consists of usual 3 to 4 character .(suffix), and as domain name investors say that the shorter the domain name the better, it usually adds to the domain name length. For example, .BZ or .BIZ? .CM or .COM?

5. Future resale value

Domain Names in general are appreciating in value, as more and more people use the internet. And as we are expecting an increase in internet users, the demand for domain names are ever growing. With this demand and not enough supply of good domain names around, people are turning to CCTLDs and in a few years, the resale value of CCTLDs are going to really rise.

These are just some of the major reasons on why I believe CCTLDs are going to be a great investment for people. Owning premium domain names is really nice and with a lot of CCTLD’s up for grabs, it’s nice to get tons of them while they are available. I’ve currently invested a few thousand dollars on CCTLDs and will be continuing to invest more in the future.

  1. Make money thru Domain Names: 7 Types of Domain names | TechFilipino linked to this post on June 12, 2009

[...] ccTLD are domain names that are specifically assigned to different countries. These domain names have a suffix that refer to which country it was from (e.g. .PH is Philippines). There are quite a number of ccTLDs that exist right now, the most popular one is .CO.UK. Other popular ones are .US (United States), .IN (India), .CN (China). These type of domain names can be used as a type of domain name hack, where they form a word with the suffix (e.g. Gra.PH). These are great domain names as they get great Search Engine Optimization (SEO) points from local search engines (Try typing google.com and you’re redirected to the local version). The future of domain name investment is here as a huge number of premium domain names are up for grabs at a regular registration cost. I’ve written about it before here. [...]

[...] Not all ccTLDs are included in the long term, ccTLDs that are established, like .CO.UK, .ME, .TV etc., are already saturated and commanding a high price. The ccTLDs that is being pointed to here are ccTLDs that still have premium domain names available. ccTLDs like .PH, the ones that still have lots of premium up for grabs. I’ve placed it in the long term as it would take time before their values would go up. It would take significant development and it’s dominance in the search engines for it to go up in value. I’ve written more about it here. [...]
