We are all familiar with .com’s, .net’s, .info’s etc., and those are called Top Level Domain Names (TLD). But try to find some great TLD that you could register, and you’ll normally find that most of the great ones are taken or are being sold at a really high price. So where can we invest our money in the domain name industry? It’s CCTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domain Names), which is the domain names available for each country. I’ve listed 5 good reasons, why I believe it is the future.
Why CCTLD?
1. Search Engine Friendly

When you go to a Search Engine (e.g. typing Google.com in your address bar), notice that when you get there, you’re redirected to your own country code Domain names (in my case, I was redirected to Google.com.ph).
Upon using search, most of the results are localized if *possible*. So priorities (or rather more points) are given to CCTLDs as opposed to the TLD counterpart. And the reason why is given in the next topic.
2. Relevant Content

So why do Search Engines give more points to CCTLD? In the quest of search engines to provide the best search results, it needs to provide quality and relevant search results. And so the reason is that CCTLDs provide search results that are relevant in the country level. For example, If I was to search shopping malls, it won’t be relevant to show results like shopping malls in the U.S.. So this is why it is given more points (in SEO) than other TLDs in search.
3. Premium Domain names available

Try to find a unregistered Premium (2, 3, 4 characters or single dictionary word) TLD, and you’ll find almost all of it are already registered to either individuals or big Domain Name companies. When you go to registrars to search these premium domain names, they’re sold at $500 and above (considering that some are already 2 word TLD).
CCTLDs gives a fresh start to a lot of people who want to enter the domain name business a chance to own their very own premium domain names. Although most CCTLDs are priced higher, it at least guarantees that you get a very short and memorable domain name address.
4. Shorter

TLD’s consists of usual 3 to 4 character .(suffix), and as domain name investors say that the shorter the domain name the better, it usually adds to the domain name length. For example, .BZ or .BIZ? .CM or .COM?
5. Future resale value

Domain Names in general are appreciating in value, as more and more people use the internet. And as we are expecting an increase in internet users, the demand for domain names are ever growing. With this demand and not enough supply of good domain names around, people are turning to CCTLDs and in a few years, the resale value of CCTLDs are going to really rise.
These are just some of the major reasons on why I believe CCTLDs are going to be a great investment for people. Owning premium domain names is really nice and with a lot of CCTLD’s up for grabs, it’s nice to get tons of them while they are available. I’ve currently invested a few thousand dollars on CCTLDs and will be continuing to invest more in the future.
