As I used to outsource making websites for other companies, all I know is that there’s 1 mistake that I should’ve done that time. Remember the lines that our companies would say, “Could you update / change this for us…†and that mistake is I should’ve used WordPress as the Content Management System (CMS) of the companies’ websites. Here’s why…
… WordPress has always been known as a blogging platform where people express their feelings, expertise etc. but it doesn’t end there. The capabilities of WordPress far exceeds what is known or expected from them.
– Companies should use WordPress for their CMS –
One thing I love about WordPress is that it doesn’t take an expert to understand and make simple and small revisions about them, not to mention, adding contents (whether big or small) can be done in a breeze. The Backend User Interface is easy to get, and the beginners could play around and learn it in 10 minutes. There are also free plugins available for companies to use, which could’ve cost them time and money if it was manually coded! Like adding Twitter update on the side bar or having the share buttons on each post. There are even more powerful plugins like booking, ecommerce or auction that can be added for free. Companies can take advantage of this as it doesn’t cost that much to build (I believe WordPress costs lower than coding it under PHP) and it gets done faster. And didn’t I mention its SEO friendly?
Outsourcing companies should stop making money out of companies with their “update / maintenance†work, they could have a support for plugins that doesn’t work which they can charge but it’s about time that they give companies a break from tons of charges. It takes them half the time they need to build a site from scratch and they have all the documentation ready from WordPress’ website! They can also build good relationships with their clients, as before when I outsourced my site a simple revision (removing a branch in the contacts) costed me $17 / hour. What is $17 (its a huge amount in the Philippines), for something you could do in a minute? In the long run, companies are going to be pushed and hire themselves a web developer as it costs pretty much the same to update their site anyways.
Maybe its about time companies should give a damn about their website development and understand more about it. WordPress is such a powerful tool and FREE! That its just those who are blind (or not paying attention) that couldn’t see it. Open your eyes companies, this might just be the solution that you’ve been looking for.
