Streetfood Tycoon for iOS, iPhone, iPad and iPod: A Proud Filipino App

I’ve heard so much about people talking about the filipino game, Streetfood Tycoon. At first, I thought it sounds interesting but I’m still hooked with some games that I’ve installed on my iPad and iPhone. But when I finally finished some of the games that I played, I started to download new ones and this is what I found. Streetfood Tycoon is a great app that is proudly Filipino made and it’s FREE…

I actually installed it in my iPad and got quite busy and then I noticed that my wife was on my iPad for a while everyday. I asked her about the game she’s playing and she said it was streetfood tycoon! (note: she’s not the gamer type). So I looked at how she played and noticed why she was hooked.

I remembered playing lemonade tycoon (one of my favorites) / dinner dash / etc, these games were really fun to play and challenging too. It is also great to inspire people to have their own business, and to experience how it is to run a foodcart business. What’s also funny is that they feature some really funny characters that relate to real life celebrities (including manny pacquiao, he was named differently). Lots of upgrades and position to improve your food cart business in every level.

Streetfood Tycoon is just awesome, my wife completed it in 5 days (She was able to earn all the upgrades). If my non gamer wife loves, understands and haves fun with the game, well so can anyone =). I would definitely recommend anyone with an iOS device to go and download this app. You can download it free in iTunes.

Free DOTA App for iPhone, iPad and Android: Plant Wars & Legendary Heroes

I used to enjoy playing DOTA a while back (about 3 years ago) and have stopped playing ever since (time constraint and other new games), now that I have an iPhone, I always wondered if there was something similar (can play it during spare time). I found 2 cool games that is similar to DOTA app that can be played on iPhone, iPad and Android. Here’s the best part, it’s FREE! You don’t have to pay, unless you want to buy special items.

DOTA App: Plant Wars

At first, I thought that it looks somehow like a kids game, but it was placed in the strategy category in games (app store). I tested it out upon downloading and somehow I was surprised that the game was so similar to the way DOTA was played. I played it on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1, it went really smoothly and the controls were superb (touch is way better than a mouse). The game is much more simpler than DOTA app, you can choose different heroes, battle it out with the ai and you have sidekicks that help you battle the other side. The objective is to destroy the main base of the other side. The characters look really cute, like in kid’s games, but don’t be fooled by it, the game is still as harsh and as fun as DOTA app. The only downside to this is that it is a 1 on 1 type of game (one hero to one hero), and each hero only has 3 types of magic. The game is simple but it could be too simple for some (I like it simple).

DOTA App: Legendary Heroes

As I enjoyed playing Plant Wars, I researched for other games that is similar to it. What I found was Legendary Heroes, I believe I saw it before but I thought that it is a MMORPG (you’d have to be online to play) or it is just another game (boy, was I wrong!). This is the more “older” version of Plant wars, it has more mature looking heroes and graphics not too far from DOTA app. There are 8 heroes to choose from, each having their unique set of skills and magic (4 magic skills per hero). And, unlike plant wars, it can go as far as 3 heroes per team (3 vs. 3). You can also control 3 heroes if you want to or leave some for the AI and control one just for yourself. I really like this game, but I’m having a hard time playing it on iPhone (my Fingers might be too big) and I cannot see what I’m tapping. But, overall, this game is highly recommended for all the DOTA app fans out there.

The Simpsons Tapped Out

I’ve always been a big fan of The Simpsons show and I enjoy the humor that they do. The first Simpsons game they released was a side scrolling action arcade game which wasn’t really fun, but here comes their new release, “The Simpsons Tapped Out“. At first I thought, it might be just another cheesy game, but boy was I wrong…

I first downloaded The Simpons tapped out when it first came out but didn’t really pay attention as it needed to be online. But as I came to see my brother play it almost everyday, I was intrigued and gave it a shot. What got me interested is that you get to rebuild your very own Springfield (after Homer blew it up while playing his myPad, lol!). You get to see more and more Simpson’s characters as you build new buildings and perform quests.

The whole point of the Simpsons tapped out is to build all the buildings that they have (to unlock characters, which you can assign to do jobs) by doing jobs and quests and earn money and donuts (yes, you use them to build special buildings and speed up tasks). Another cool feature of the game is the social part, where you add friends and interact with their buildings (you earn more for each friend you add, giving you 3 interactions with their buildings every 24 hours). You can actually purchase donuts using real money if you can’t wait that long (lol!).

So if you’re a huge Simpsons fan, The Simpsons tapped out maybe the game for you. The only downside here is that it takes a long time to play the game as you have to wait for minutes or even weeks for certain tasks to complete. But overall, I love the game, I always wanted an opportunity to make my own Springfield and control different characters and see how your friends would build theirs.

**Update: The Simpsons Tapped Out seems to be taken out of the AppStore, the server seems to be overloaded (as many players are playing) so they pulled it out for now. But it still can be downloaded via Installous for Jailbreak Phones.

**Update: My account just crashed, I was automatically upgraded to level 11 (from level 7) and have inherited the money, donuts and land of my brother (by visiting his city). I wonder when it would be fixed. I can’t log in and when I do it just crashes.

Zombies Run App – Will make you Run, Literally

I have to confess, I love watching Zombie flicks, it’s just something that would make you wonder what if? If people start turning into zombies and chase after you, would you run? The hell, I would, I bet even the laziest unfit person would run fast not to be eaten by Zombies. Here’s a cool new app that would simulate that feeling but minus the zombies, Zombies Run App.

Zombies Run App is a smart new app that is for Working out and play a game at the same time. How it works is that it tracks your movements either via GPS or accelerometer, and as you go further the story slowly unfolds. You don’t need to do anything but focus on your workout and it moves the story with you.

You become one of the runners (scavengers / errand boy / etc.) for your city (somewhere in the UK), where you do missions to help people in it. It tracks your speed and distance run, and the coolest thing I found about it is the zombie chase feature. It’s somehow like a way to do interval training, Zombies run app will tell you that Zombies are after you so you have to run fast / sprint to get away (you could die in the story if you didn’t run fast enough). Oh and not to forget, you can even play your own music while running and it will automatically fade or pause when there’s a story line and you can build up your own base with the supplies you collect in every mission.

I actually enjoy and use zombies run app very often, it just makes you want to take one more step further. The creators of this app are absolutely genius, a good workout and makes you work harder (zombies chasing you, who wouldn’t?!). I highly recommend this app for everyone to try out. I can’t wait to have more stories or more versions of this type of app. By the way, make sure that the place you’re running at is safe (clear of cars or things) and enough room for you to run around.

Bayandsl’s new Modem-Router can’t stream DVR online (2 routers)

We recently received a free upgrade from Bayandsl which increases the top speed of our dsl to 3 mbps (from 2.5mbps). I have been using it for a couple of years and there are times where you just get disappointed with the speed (2.5 mbps advertised but gets less than 1 mbps). But, with the upgrade, our speeds were consistently 3mbps (or close). I was extremely happy with the performance, but what made it very difficult was the Bayandsl’s new modem-router combo which couldn’t stream DVR online over 2 routers…

A while back, their modem used to be PPPOE (where you need a username password and dial to go online) and now has moved to a DHCP (always online and no username password required) connection. With the PPPOE (Dynamic IP), our DVR setup was pretty easy, the modem was on bridge mode, our router handled everything with DDNS to Dyndns.org and everything streamed fine.

However, with the recent change to BayanDSL’s new router modem, the modem was not allowed to go bridge mode (you can set it, but it will lose connection) to which BayanDSL have confirmed via tech support.

The Setup: (2 Routers)

Modem Router -> Router -> DVR

I’ve tried many different setups like:

1st Router to bridge mode (connection dropped)
Port forwarding from 1st router to 2nd router and to the DVR (Couldn’t connect, port not open)
2nd Router to bridge mode and NAT and DHCP handled by 1st Router (Couldn’t connect online, but port is open)

The Solution: Change BayanDSL’s modem, new DHCP modem only

**Update: Unfortunately, BayanDSL has delivered the other DHCP modem only and it still is a router (just without a WIFI)! It will still have the same problem. The Solution is listed at the update below!

As I have spent endless hours checking online and calling tech support (They were clueless to this stuff and was upselling their static IP which was way slower and more expensive), I’ve just started to give up and thought of another way. Downgrade my modem-router to just a modem, which hopefully will allow bridge mode that would allow me to connect to DVR with ease. I’ve learned a lot from playing around and trying to make it work, DVRs may look complicated but it is really a very simple machine.

Has anyone been able to make their DVR stream over 2 or more routers?

**Update: I was able to make it work! it was via these settings:

Modem Router -> Router (bridge mode) -> DVR

Modem Router Port forwards port 50 and 9000 to DVR’s IP address

Also, Bayandsl doesn’t allow you to connect to your own IP, but when tested from another internet connection, it works!

iPhone iOS 5 signal does not return and gives no service message

I bought my iPhone a little over a year ago and it has been pretty problem-less to me. However, as iPhone iOS 5 came out, I was so excited that I updated mine straight away. It seemed normal for the first few hours of use but when I got to a no signal area, my iPhone never recovered signal unless I power it off and then on. Here’s how to fix no service problem of iPhone iOS 5:

Get a Case – it might just be a case of the Death Grip problem of iPhone, so buy yourself one.
Reset Network Settings – Just go to Settings>General>Reset and then chose Reset Network Settings. **Note: if you do this, all the passwords of the wifi you have input will be gone.
Turn on 3G and Cellular Data – Go to Settings>General>Network and then turn on 3G and Cellular Data. **Note: The disadvantage of doing this is that you might be charged for data usage and less battery life, be aware.
Reset All Settings – Just go to Settings>General>Reset and then choose Reset All Settings. **Note: All your settings will be reset to default, I don’t recommend doing this and do this as the LAST RESORT. Also, some have reported to have the same problem after this, your iPhone might need to be downgraded or replaced.
Downgrade your iPhone – I haven’t experienced or researched much about this but if your iPhone was working before upgrading to iOS5 then this might be the solution you could do.

I found that solution 3 helped me fix no service problem of iPhone iOS 5, I recently upgraded to the unlimited surfing (Unlisurf from Globe) and haven’t encountered the problem ever since. So do check it out if it works out for you.

There are a whole lot of top video games (in 2012) that have been confirmed and whether you are a working person in an office or still in your first few years of life, there is something for everyone on the way. Here is my pick of the top video games in 2012.

Here’s how to get Free in-app purchase to iPhone or iPad:

Open the app called “Cydia”
Go to the “Search” Tab
Search for “iap cracker“
You should see it in the search results (via modmyi.com)
Install the app in Cydia and restart your phone (it’ll request to restart your spring board)
Go to any app or game and tap any item that they have in their in app purchase
You’ll notice that in most apps, it’ll give you a success message on your purchase.

**Important note: if the free in-app purchase asks for your iTunes Id and password then it is not supported, so do not proceed to purchase unless you’re really willing to pay for it =).

I’m still exploring my newly jailbroken iOS 5.01. A lot of cool features and free apps to explore.

Playing NBA 2K12 in Sony 3d TV

A Sony 3d TV coupled with a PS3 means NBA 2k12 for me, just when I thought that was perfect, well NBA 2k12 came with a 3d support. I was extremely happy about it so I bought a copy and here’s what I experienced when I tried it.

The effects were really cool, the crowd were in 3d and as the game started the players were also in 3d. Playing the first 5 minutes, it felt really darn cool to have. But somewhere in the 2nd Quarter (I play 5 minutes per quarter), I just feel really dizzy and couldn’t keep up with the movements of the players.

I realized that 3d effects are cool, but probably not for NBA. I played Granturismo 5 in 3d without getting dizzy but NBA 2k12 just pushed me not to use it. I guess 3d really isn’t for every game, playing it in HD in a 55 inch is still very cool (I used to play in a 40 inch with a PC connection with medium settings as my PC slows down).

What I’m going to try next is to play it in a 120 inch HD projector I have installed, this will surely be a crazy and fun experience lol.
