As cars become really affordable, more and more people started driving. But with recession coming this year, some people might have to sell their cars, leaving a blank space in their garage / parking lot. So instead of wasting precious resources, why don’t they generate income from it? My idea here is to make the most of what you have. Here’s how it works:
The website will consist of a google map and a written directory, which the users could use to add an ‘Open parking space for rent / lease / sale’. The search function will be tailor made to filter by price, location, safety (covered? secured? etc.) and rating of parking (Land)lord. The Parking Lords will have to upload pictures or videos about their parking spot so the Renter would have a clear idea before they visit the place (saves time). Renters would also be given a rating by Parking Lords, so the Parking Lords would have a clear idea before they enter into an agreement with the Renter.
It’s a win-win situation for both sides as the Parking Lords earn income from their unused parking spaces (and gain friends thru this process); The Renter will save money rather than paying public parking places and might be able to saves lots of energy walking far distances especially if the parking space is close to their place.
I’ve seen similar websites such as YourParkingspace.co.uk and ParkAtmyHouse.com, but they seem to focus on their own local areas which leaves a lot of countries open for this kind of websites. I think by being specific with details of the car parking, this concept could differentiate itself from other competitors. By placing formulas (Crowd Pricing) that makes pricing more based on how the crowd rates it (good / bad neighborhood, close to commercial area…), this way the Renters could get the best possible price and also get a good relationship with the Parking Lord (as bad feedback for the Parking Lord means less revenue and less Renters interested and vice versa).
Revenues could be from advertising. Listing could also be a revenue once a number of steady stream of unique visitors come to your website (like $2 a listing?).
Some unclear thoughts:
Who would handle the Conflict resolution if conflicts were to arise?
Where is the price of a Parking space based? (safety, location, space?)
What do you guys think?
