This is an update from my previous post. I’ve been tweaking the Carrington Theme in WordPress to a point that there isn’t much left in Carrington theme elements. My gang and I have been working on ways to improve and tweak Carrington Theme to more of our taste. If you’ve noticed, most of the elements of Carrington theme have been tweaked and changed into our own…
The man, Alex King, creator of Carrington theme have just released a developer outline to make Carrington your own. I didn’t use it though (I used the older version), but for developers it might be great to start up with this. I’ve added certain features here:
- Ads on the header part beside the logo
- Image Logo instead of text
- Removed tagline from displaying in header
- Removed the about on the sidebar and changed it into a widget
- Made the top of the post in the home page a widget
- Added Ads on each post (before the post)
- Removed tags from showing from posts
- Wider Post display width
If anyone needs any help in tweaking Carrington Theme, let me know and I’ll try my best to help you out.

I am using the Carrington theme – mostly intact – however, it does not display custom avatars uploaded by members of my site. I don’t know if this is before or after I implemented Sociable’s Facebook-Connect plug-in – however, after I deactivated, restarted the server – the custom avatars are still NOT showing up. (So I turned it back on). Do you know of any display issues with custom avatars, and how to fix?S
@Stephen I’m currently just using Gravatars here, I haven’t tried the Facebook friend connect thing yet. I’m sorry but I couldn’t help on that issue
Hi, very nice post. I have been wonder’n bout this issue,so thanks for posting
Hi. I know this isn’t a help forum but was wondering if you might know: (Found your post via google “tweaking carrington”.) I’m trying to widen the main post settings from Carrington’s default, to 570 px. Using Firebug, I can tweak it and make it look right but as of yet, haven’t been able to find which file in the Carrington theme needs changing. Firebug shows this (after tweaking):
If you can suggest where the change is needed, I’d be most thankful.
@Bill: sure no problem, You can go to the “Style.CSS” in this theme and edit from there. Find the word Sidebar and you’ll find the settings there. But how I’ve done it was a series of trial and error process so make sure to have backup in case it goes wrong.
Let me know if there’s anything else I could help you out with Bill.
Francis: Thank you very much for your help. Now I know where to look in style.css.
Cheers.
hello found your blog. Can you please let me know how did you get that widget in the sidebar and also adsense in every post. by the way nice set up
Hi, I’ve already installed Carrington theme in my hosted site. I’ve gone through your post and learnt that it’s possible to use Image Logo instead of text. Would you please tell me how I can do this?
I know this is a good bit of time after the Original Post, but I am struggling modifying the width of my current wordpress theme. I am usually pretty at figuring this sort of thing out, it generally takes a bit of searching but when you see something like width=700px, you can modify it, refresh the page, and see if that was the change you needed. However, I am finding that is not the case with this Carrington theme I am using. My website is http://www.jacobwcrosby.net and as you can see the images I post are too wide for the main column. I am not willing to change the width of my posts, changing the theme should be easy enough… Wonderind if you would help me with this…
Thank you,
Jacob
@Jacob: I’m afraid there are limitations to adjusting the theme’s width for the posts. The images you have seem too big for carrington. Unless you also resize the sidebar width
