6Rounds: Free Video Chatting with Interaction + Online Dating

VirtuWhen you say video chatting, there are tons and tons of websites that offer the service and users are simply confused on which one to use and what’s the difference of one over the other. There’s a new website that would seem to change all that, 6rounds is a cool new startup that offers video chatting plus the interactivity that others don’t have. It also has online dating on it, where you can meet new people in not a boring manner…

… 6Rounds was first pitched to me by Natasha (thank you very much for letting me know) and as I experimented I found lots of cool stuff and features that it has. Basically it gives you interactivity like putting a bomb in the other persons screen and exploding, somehow similar to the “Buzz” feature of Internet Messengers. Now that’s basically what’s missing with all the video chatting out there, interaction is the key to get visitors to stay longer and interact more.

It allows you to send gifts, make an effect, activities (Like surf the web together) and games. Imagine being able to watch videos together even if both of you are on one end and the other is on the other end of the world. Now what’s interesting is that it also combines the online dating aspect to it, it allows you to meet new people of your choice or randomly. Now with the amount of activities that you can do, it’s definitely going to remove a good deal of awkwardness in online dating thru video chat. The best thing about it is that there’s no installation involved, all you have to do is to allow it to tap on your webcam and microphone and you’re all good to go. Didn’t I mention that the service is FREE? With the amount of things you could do with it, 6rounds is even offering it as a free service for everyone to enjoy. The design is just so simple, with the typical interface of video chatting / Internet messengers, so it won’t be too hard to understand or learn.

Natasha of 6Rounds was kind enough to disclose certain information about their website. It has raised $1.5 million to this date from investors (investors and Israeli startup factory). They have a very interesting business model / revenue stream which are:

• Virtual / Real Gifts
• Personalization of modes and applications
• E-Commerce Affiliate links
• Advertising

Their revenue stream seems alright, but of course, it really depends as to how far users are going to lead or buy from ecommerce. Only time will tell as to how successful their monetization plan will go, but I can almost forsee that this is the future. I think video chatting will take over IM in the future, that’s with the amount of computers giving away a free microphone and webcam (laptops and netbooks). 6Rounds have done a great job giving a free service that is both interactive and interesting, there’s just so many things you could do with it. With the online dating involved, I believe that it could just work, making dates less awkward, more fun and more successful dates. I’ve heard that Skype is looking for some Video chatting company that they need to acquire, well here you go Skype, 6rounds got the innovation going, better get an offer to them right now.
